TAMPA, Fla. -- Minnesota Twins leadoff man Denard Span hit a hard foul ball that struck his mom in the chest during Wednesday's game. She was treated by paramedics and back in the stands minutes later. "My mom is feeling ok right now!" Span later posted on his Twitter account. Wanda Wilson was wearing a Span jersey and sitting with about 20 family members and friends near the third-base dugout. Span took a defensive swing in the first inning and sent a liner into the low box seats, hitting her near the shoulder. A stunned Span sprinted into the stands and stayed with his mother while she got treatment. The split-squad game against the New York Yankees was delayed for a few minutes as she walked to first aid, and the Twins said she was sore but OK. "What the odds of that happening?" Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson said. "I've never seen it before. It's crazy. I'm standing there right next to it and I heard it and it's just, 'Oh no!, that didn't sound good.' She's on the ground and I'm saying, 'Please don't be the head or something' because it sounded so ugly.'" Span had left the clubhouse by the time reporters were allowed in after the Twins' 4-2 win. "It happened so fast," Twins starting pitcher Brian Duensing said. "I talked to Denard about it and he said once he found the ball after he hit it, then he realized right away it was his mother. He knew right away." "It's scary. From what I heard, what he said, she's all right. It could have been way worse," he said. "They left together. We'll know tomorrow. I asked if she was all right and he said, 'Yes, she's fine.'" Span returned to the plate and struck out on the next pitch from Phil Hughes. The Twins originally said Span would leave the game, but his mother was sitting in a different seat by the bottom of the first inning and he went to play center field. Span flied out in the second inning, then left in the bottom of the third, telling a team official he wasn't mentally into the game. Span and his mother spent time together after he departed. "It affected him. He wanted to come out, so we took him out," Anderson said. "He went and saw her, and then he said, 'I want to stay in.' He's real close and obviously it's his mom, and finally we just said go." "It tore him up pretty good. She's doing well. They said she was fine and he got a chance to be with her. I'm sure he'll probably buy her a nice dinner tonight," he said. Span tied for the league lead in triples last year, helping the Twins win the AL Central. Anderson said a few inches either way could've made for a much more serious injury. "It hit her in the meat. I guess if it got up on the bone or the shoulder blade or something, the trainer said it could have shattered it. No place is good, but if it had to be somewhere, at least it didn't get a bone," he said. Span was born and raised in Tampa. He regularly volunteers to make the long trip from the Twins' spring training home in Fort Myers when Minnesota visits the Yankees so he can see his family. Spring training ballparks are much smaller than stadiums where regular-season games are held. But along with being more cozy, spring parks can be more dangerous because fans often sit closer to the field. The backstop netting at George M. Steinbrenner Field goes all the way from behind the plate to the roof, and extends toward the dugouts. Span's mother was sitting only a few rows off the field, in the first section where the netting ends. "It's kind of a dangerous spot," Hughes said. "I think they should move the net all the way to the dugout because you can get those foul balls like that." Fans are often reminded to be alert for balls and bats that might go flying into the stands. But with objects traveling so fast, such injuries become perils of the game. Hall of Famer Bob Feller heard about the Span accident and recalled the time he threw a pitch that was fouled off and hit his mom -- on Mother's Day. "She was sitting right next to the dugout at Comiskey Park in Chicago," the 91-year-old Feller said at Cleveland's camp in Goodyear, Ariz. "It hit her right above the eye, broke her glasses and she needed seven stitches. It was in 1939. Some Mother's Day for her, wasn't it? I was pretty upset, but had to keep on pitching."

all the attention on the champions matches.personally i wouldn't touch the outright winner in the barca/arsenal match, check out the odds-they are long.i see potential draw.barca is terrific but arsenal @ home, especially in champions play has lost only once-ONCE!i'm rollin' big $$$ on the over.in the other matchup i definitely like inter, enough to play the goalline for a better payout.

very limited action after that.a coupla belgian matches but i'd only recommencd playing  fc brugge & anderlecht, especially like the odds on andy.

Donovan McNabb

  I am already sick of the trade talk surrounding Donovan McNabb. Am I the only one who smells something fishy here? First of all, the Eagles are not going to trade McNabb for anything less than a very low second round pick, regardless of what they say. McNabb has proven to be a top 5 QB. Without injury problems this would not even be debatable.

  It is pretty genious of the Eagles actually. Kevin Kolb played in 5 games last year and did very well. By making it appear that they like Kolb more than McNabb they are raising the young back-up QB's value. I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles end up trading Kolb for a late first round early second round pick and keep McNabb.

  As a Giants fan, I would LOVE the Eagles to trade McNabb but i doubt it will go down unless someone comes with a better offer soon. If  a team is a QB away from making the playoffs then they should go after McNabb not Kolb but we will see how it plays out.

not alot i really like today.those champion league games-i guess i gotta like manu & lyon, lyon a bit more because they are home.i just don't have a great feel about these matchups.best play with those 2 matches is the over.

the rangers in the scottish league are a very good investment, even though they are the visitors.be bold and roll the goal line, i see a 2-0 victory easy.

beside that in the english league there are sopme decent faves.york city & luton and for an even better payout stevenage & acrington.

i'm hoping to cash in with hacken right now, they started at 1.

Dallas has been terrible as a home favorite since the early part of the season, going 2-26-2 ATS in their last 30 home chalk roles. However, a look deep inside those two covers shows amazing similarities to this game, and there are other big scheduling reasons to go with the home team in this one as well. First off, Denver playing second of back to back road games (in Orlando last night) which is also their third road game in four nights, and fifth in seven! That is a very tough scheduling dynamic, and playing a high scoring team like Dallas with tired legs is not conducive to success. Denver is 2-7 ATS this season in the second of back to back away games, 0-4 in those cases as underdogs, losing by 25, 10, 16, and 14 points, with the latter coming against the Celtics just four days ago. As for Dallas, mentioned that they only have two covers in their last 30 home games, but in both cases they were rested and small chalk against a ! key Western Conference foe that was playing in the second of back to back games, the exact situation in front of the Mavs today! Dallas is not covering at home against the lesser lights, but when they have had the advantage of great situations and extreme motivation they have gotten the job done. Against the Lakers one Dallas writer called it "the most important regular season game in years" and the Mavs responded. If that was the most important this is the second, as a win here would be a massive help to the Mavs in their quest for home court advantage until the Western Conference Finals, and since those semis right now would pit the Mavs and Nuggets, know that Rick Carlisle will have his team very ready for this one. Just in case that was not enough motivation, remember it was Denver that knocked the Mavs out of the playoffs last year (winning three games in Denver) and the last time these two teams met the Nuggets won by 36 in Denver, hitting 61% from beyond the arc alon! g the way. The revenge and "no way they are going to be that h! ot again " factors point to the home team in both cases. Lots, lots of reasons to like Dallas here, and they get the call as our NBA Play of the Month!                   FANTASY BASEBALL

As for Dallas, mentioned that they only have two covers in their last 30 home games, but in both cases they were rested and small chalk against a ! key Western Conference foe that was playing in the second of back to back games, the exact situation in front of the Mavs today! Dallas is not covering at home against the lesser lights, but when they have had the advantage of great situations and extreme motivation they have gotten the job done. Against the Lakers one Dallas writer called it "the most important regular season game in years" and the Mavs responded. If that was the most important this is the second, as a win here would be a massive help to the Mavs in their quest for home court advantage until the Western Conference Finals, and since those semis right now would pit the Mavs and Nuggets, know that Rick Carlisle will have his team very ready for this one. Just in case that was not enough motivation, remember it was Denver that knocked the Mavs out of the playoffs last year (winning three games in Denver) and the last time these two teams met the Nuggets won by 36 in Denver, hitting 61% from beyond the arc alon! g the way. The revenge and "no way they are going to be that h! ot again " factors point to the home team in both cases. Lots, lots of reasons to like Dallas here, and they get the call as our NBA Play of the Month!...just wished I played it in the only tourney I lost yesterday!!!!!

Great Game

FFP Open

That was a hell of a ride, 3 negative rounds followed by 3 positive rounds. Good thing  LAC / Dallas was a push for dantre17 and some how Edmonton, one of the worst teams won. Just like in  poker, it's better to be lucky then good. Thanks again Razor for having this contest. Psyched to defend my title in the next open. lol

for a wednesday there is just a ton of action but for some reason only a few available plays merit attention.all the matches in Italian serie a scream potential draw to me except Inter, and then you'll hafta give some goals.same deal with Barca in the Spanish Primera, they'll prolly cover a 2 goal margin, anything more than that is risky.there is some cup action today but only Aston Villa in the FA cup is available to us-they are worthy of a play, let's hope they decide to play.Chelsea is another huge fave to win and should and needs to win, 2-0 perhaps-they have looked lackluster lately.i feel one of the best plays and my POD is MANCITY @ home @ -110.they have not lost in awhile, quite a few draws but i like them for the win at home.i'm going big!!!

should have used these plays I used in the Head 2 Head 379 match up for the championship but I did not...I feel behind in this match up because my opponent hit a soccer match ay +350 so I had to scramble to come back...this takes nothing away from Classof78..he is the champion of the tourney and kudos to him!!!!

4th Quarter, 2 minutes to go:
- Wow the Wizards are actually playing pretty hard right now. Of course, they're still not passing.
- Thank god Mike Miller is on this team. That is something I never thought I would say.
- Thorton hits a big 3, we're going to overtime.
- Crap, Javale McGee just fouled out. Also something I never thought I would say. Hollinger on McGee: "He achieved one of the best PERs in his rookie class despite having no clue what was going on half the time." I don' know if this is good or bad. He is so athletic but he has not idea what is going on, especially on the defensive end. He gets blocks, but when your 7 feet its not that hard.
- Wizards giving this game away in OT. Only one guy on the Wizard's bench looks like he is upset about this, and I don't even know who he is.

alotta action today, especially in the english leagues.i'm not so sure how i feel about the premier league matchup, so 'll stay away.lotsa good plays in the lower leagues.i really endorse Nottingham Forest today, i'm goin' large with them-feel very confident.Ipswich also looks to be a favorable play.a personal fave is Swansea who has been playing good ball-don't understand the odds @ +185, worth the gamble.

in the Italian B league i like alotta teams most decent odds on favorites.action on Ancona, Torino, Empoli, and Lecce are worthy.a line i also don't get is Cittadella @ +230.this club has won their last 5 games-i'm on this as well.

last but not least a few big favorites who i feel absolutely will not loose today.Sevilla in the Spanish league, Stevenage in English, and Inverness in the Scottish.they all have long odds and will require major action to generate any points.

limited action today, at least in what's available to us here at fo' free.shortly after noon in the Czech league take Slavia Prague for the win, should cover 1-0, 2-0/take the under if you are feeling frisky.Bursapor in the Turkish league is a huge favorite and should easily dominate, give up the 1.5 goals to collect better @-115.In the English league Leeds continues to be a solid money play.

later on it's all nordic-take your pick.all solid plays depending ion your level of risk.Brondby from Denmark, Rosenborg from Norway, and from Sweden-Elfsborg & IFK.

i cant believe John Lackey left the organization that gave him his chance to go to the red sox. any other team would be great, but this just proves he couldn't beat them... angels lost 3 straight playoff series to them, and Lackey was a big reason we couldnt win... so what does he do? he goes to the red sox. what a deushe Ba g. i just hope angel fans boo his ass when he plays at our home every time. he is a sell out... and although i will always remember him for helping to bring us our first ever world series title, i will never forget he left to the red sox... ANY OTHER TEAM LACKEY, ANY OTHER TEAM BUT THEM!!! anyways, having said that, how are the red sox not going to win the next 5 years? Rays are done... everyone needs to jump off that bandwagon already. its going to be back to normal between sox and yanks, and it hurts me to say it, but the red sox will have the edge for years to come :(
